Other Languages

Students studying in the Division may be eligible for scholarships in foreign programs. Please approach the course coordinators for information.

Courses are either mandatory or elective, depending on the requirements of he different faculties and departments. The Division offers courses in: Arabic, Czech, Dutch (the H. Spijer-Kok program), French, German, Italian, Russian, Romanian, Spanish, and Yiddish. These full-year courses are offered on two levels, Beginners and Advanced, both consisting of 4 class hours a week for the entire academic year.

 

  • We also offer intensive one-year courses in French, German, and Spanish for students studying toward a post-graduate degree. The courses are intended for students whose department or faculty requires a second foreign language for use as a scientific tool. Students are advised to inquire which languages their individual department accepts as second foreign languages. These intensive courses meet for two 3-hour sessions per week.

     

    Post-advanced Courses

    These yearly courses post-advanced level courses are offered in Italian, Yiddish, Spanish, Russian and Romanian. Please see 'registration' for further information.

    Exemption Exams

    Placement  exams in the foreign languages other than English are offered at the end of each semester. Sample exams (PDF):
